Vista Build 5728 (which is of course after RC1) can be downloaded from here for a limited time. As per Microsoft, this build has improvements from RC1 but has not gone through the same regression testing as a RC or Beta, and it might not work in some situations.
Furthermore, Microsoft also highlights:
This build may not have the same level of support or servicing via Windows Update, and you may not be able to upgrade to the final version of Windows Vista.
(Thanks to fellow Avanut Ken Scahefer for pointing out the link for this one.)
Update: This build has some new backgrounds and a new start up animation (if that interests you). Matt has been running this build for a few days without any issues. Below is how the branching is working internally within Microsoft for Vista; you can read more about what this means here.

- October 8, 2006 WMDC Beta 3 for Vista publicly available
Finally if you have been waiting for WMDC to sync up your Mobile, you don't need to use the hack I had posted - instead can use Beta 3 of WMDC that is now publicly available. This works on RC1 onwards - I have tried it on Builds 54xx and also now on RC2 (build 5744) and it works fine. If you have the internal dogfood build installed, this will detect that and update it. And you get support for Windows Mobile 2003 as well!
- March 31, 2005 Running XP without SP2? Well your time is running out…
I don't agree with Microsoft's approach here. Essentially if you are running XP and don't have SP2 installed, then that will be forced down your throat. Now, I had SP2 running the day it went Beta and have not had any problems, but I am not sure if this really is to get the security patches out or forcing people running pirated copy of Windows to buy legal versions (remember SP2 cannot be installed on a pirated version)? I prefer to give the people the option to do it themselves rat...
- October 6, 2006 Vista Windows Update Error
(Update: Changed the Code plug-in to get the formatting correct) For the last few days I have not been able to run Windows Update on Vista RC1 (I am running Build 5728) even though I am online. I always get the Code 8024400A error (see screen shot below). Nothing stands out in the event log. Speaking of the Event Log, if you think you can find these failures in "Windows Logs => Systems", well then think again. You would need to go to "Application and Service Logs => Microsoft =...
